Karim Aga Khan IV

Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, soul of the Costa Smeralda™, leaves us today, leaving an indelible legacy in luxury tourism in Sardinia. Thanks to his innovative vision, he created one of the most famous and internationally appreciated tourism models.
Fascinated by the scents of myrtle, juniper and mastic trees, he arrived on the Gallura coasts imagining a new concept of hospitality: a harmonious luxury, respectful of the environment, that would have transformed the face of the island forever. From this intuition the myth of the Costa Smeralda™ was born, today one of the most sought-after destinations in the world.
The foundation of the Consortium Costa Smeralda™ fostered the development of iconic structures such as the Hotel Cala di Volpe, the Hotel Romazzino, the Hotel Pitrizza and the Hotel Cervo. In addition to the luxury hotels, the Consortium has promoted the growth of local realities of excellence, including the Porto Cervo Shipyard, the prestigious Pevero Golf Club - one of the most scenic courses in the world - and the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, today an international reference point for sailing and top-level regattas.
His contribution also enhanced Sardinian design and craftsmanship with the birth of Cerasarda, a company specialized in the production of ceramics and fine furniture, bringing the Mediterranean style of the Costa Smeralda™ to the world.
This corner of paradise has not only been a destination for luxury, but also the retreat of great names in history and show business, including Lady Diana, who spent unforgettable moments here.
Karim Aga Khan IV's legacy goes beyond tourism. He was the architect of the Alisarda airline, which later became Meridiana, creating job opportunities for many Sardinians. He also played a key role in the birth of the Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport™, today one of the island's main airports.
His vision redefined the image of Sardinia, elevating it to an elite destination. We at Maior Capital®, who operate every day in this extraordinary territory, pay tribute to him for the indelible mark he left on this land and in the lives of its inhabitants. In the hope that his successor, Rami Al-Hussaini Aga Khan V, will carry on this extraordinary legacy with the same dedication and foresight.
