Giorgio Armani and the precious bond with Sardinia
The passing of Giorgio Armani leaves an immense void in the world of fashion, including in Sardinia, a land that the great designer had chosen as a source of inspiration and a privileged refuge.
“I take inspiration from it when I work on colors,” Armani once said, speaking of Sardinia. And indeed, those who know the island are well aware of how its sea, its sunsets, and its landscapes offer an infinite palette of shades and impressions.
The bond between Armani and Sardinia was never just about a simple summer presence. It began years earlier, when he first arrived, discovering an island capable of enchanting with its natural elegance, far from the spotlight. From then on, Sardinia became a constant destination of his travels: not only Costa Smeralda™ and large yachts, but also more discreet and authentic shores, where he could experience the island as the Sardinians do.
The relationship with Costa Smeralda™ was strengthened in June 2021, when he opened his first boutique in Porto Cervo. He was the last among the great names of high fashion to arrive in the exclusive village created by the Aga Khan, choosing the elegant “Passeggiata” for his creations. The inauguration was understated, as was his style, with that refinement that has always distinguished the Armani brand.
A year later came another significant step: the decision to link his name to one of the symbolic events of international sailing, the Superyacht Regatta organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda™. Since then, the regatta has borne the name Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta, an event that marks the beginning of the sailing season and that every year brings owners and enthusiasts from all over the world to Sardinia.
Sardinia, therefore, was never just a backdrop for Armani, but a place of inspiration, a refuge of authentic beauty, and a natural stage where his style met the island’s timeless elegance.
Today, in remembering his extraordinary figure, that special bond remains alive—the one that unites one of the greatest masters of fashion with the Sardinian land: made of colors, emotions, and that refined sobriety that made Giorgio Armani a universal icon.
